I hung back, afraid.

“These won’t hurt you” he said.

“They are all cows, not bulls – these are black and white.”

“Only if they were all black would they’d be bulls.”

@ Rob and Karen - I think I was torn between wanting to believe but sensing that, as a man, he was probably wrong and in need of reassurance himself. In later life he denied (with amusement) ever having said anything so plainly untrue.
