Some people are so fond of creating judgments based solely on appearances, that they don’t waste their time asking questions or opening their hearts. It is these people that will wrongly assume that she is a girly-girl, or that she wants to feel like a princess, or maybe pretend to be a real, live, Barbie doll; or maybe they will think that she is merely being fashionably trendy, or different. And the sad part is that just by paying attention to the smallest of details, they might have noticed the real reason for her choice today. Taking two seconds to step outside their selfish thoughts, they might have noticed the candle burning on the altar, the vacant space in the processional, the chair purposefully left empty at the main reception table. In a perfect world this bride would be wearing a snowy white gown with her best friend at her side, but we don’t live in a perfect world. That is why today, her special day, mascara tainted tears slowly run down her face, dripping onto the most elegant of pink gowns.

My son died of cancer and I am making donations in my country. This story is so profound. What you say about appearances is very true. Nobody knows if they only glance at the surface.

This year I have signed up to walk in the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and that was the inspiration for this six sentences. If you would like to make a donation, please give me your email address and I will send you the link.
This is a work of fiction for me, but this story could be a very real possibility for someone else. I'm grateful that none of my close friends have been stricken by this horrible disease, but I'm ready to walk to support those that have been touched by it.
Thank you.
