Hotel room, pitch dark and unfamiliar. Three a.m. waking, fertile thinking. Mentally polishing the first sentence, reasonably sure of the following five.

When spouse arises for a mid-night pee I grab notebook and pen; while he re-settles I jot down essential word conjunctions. In the light of
morning I check to refresh my memory.

The pen I used in the night was inkless.

Pencils definitely ARE best - I love pencils - but was unable to be certain that they'd stay unbroken in the bottom of a bag. And yes, propelling pencils have their uses here but I couldn't find any of the four I have lying about the house.

However, you may be sure I have now learned my lesson!

Ha!...and another transient idea slips wilfully through the net. Pencils are best - you can lie down without worrying about the physics of ink and gravity.

Thanks Michael - I also identified strongly with your comment on Teresa's Muse discussion: 'don't think it - DO it' equally applies to printmaking.
(The piece I was musing upon was my previous one, 'Dungeons and dragons')

Oops. Four out of five times I find those great ideas are usually greater upon waking than they seem to be after they get filtered through the light of day. But, hey, you got this great little piece from the experience, so all was not lost. Enjoyed this much.
