As time progressed, it became increasingly apparent to Dave that he might in fact be dead and the world he inhabited was in all probability Hell.

For did Man not encounter pain and suffering on a constant basis? Was his world not populated with demons that made a living off of tormenting those dwelling there?

Perhaps the religions of the world he lived in were just the faint vestiges of one true philosophy, from a distant world where the heat was hot and the ground was dry, but the air was full of sound? For did they not, when you came right down to it, appear to be preaching the same damn thing?

Dave did not quite know what he could do with this revelation, for there was little that he truly understood or believed, but he did know that if there was a way out, he was going to find it.

Teresa, as long as you are emotionally invested in religion as a personal thing, it can he a balm and a calming influence. I think an objective Truth does not exist, and I posit that my 'theory' is as likely to explain the nature of reality as any other religious theory.

I don't even know anymore.  All I can go by is my gut and man, that drive to the Catholic church (hubby behind the wheel) is a painful journey every Sunday.  It's like a show, where the congregation has promised to pretend to be hypnotized, while the priests have promised to pretend to be perfect, and there are songs and rituals that inspire the pretending, that add bubbly hope to it, and sometimes the hopeful pretending has a power of it's own where everyone actually begins to believe in all the heaven talk and eternal salvation, then other feelings mount, the strong overwhelming NEED for it to be true, that there's life everlasting and a God who hears their prayers and LOVES!!! them so very, very much.  It's all so painful to watch, like everyone is gathered around a dead stinky corpse, and no matter how much you insist the corpse is a dead thing, the others just tell you you're crazy, you're lost, because the corpse lives, it LIVES!!  The whole performance really hurts my gut and my brain.  Sorry about the tangent...I'm tired.  Regarding "the same damn thing", well, wisdom is wisdom.  We don't need a religion to tell us what works for the best.  What's true.  Truth is the common denominator.
