The deep purple walls held memories and secrets, both good and bad. I closed my eyes and for a moment, my sister appeared once more with her impossibly perfect blond curls, an anomaly in our dark, gypsy family. "I love you", I said and she smiled in reply before vanishing, as she always did when I opened my eyes. For a moment I stood transfixed, staring at the perfect web some hopeful spider had created in the corner of the room's single window. Out of habit, I reached for a broom to clear it away before it could scare her, but David's hand on my shoulder reminded me of the truth, that my sister was gone. We didn't belong here anymore.
