The Path We've Chosen (for my daughter, Bryn)

Long hours in these eternal woods… our travail seems without end.

We know nothing beyond each corner; we see nothing past each bend.

Our skies have turned from blue to grey; our sunlight disappears.

The deepening, dusky shadows seem to magnify our fears.

But you’re with your loving Father, girl. Show resolve; have no remorse.

This is the path we’ve chosen—be strong and stay the course!

You can still laugh.  Thank God.  And what a perfect idea, to hike the forests.  Nothing communicates better than nature.  And happy dogs.  They teach us to love the journey.  And to appreciate our butts.

Your perspective is wise and healing.

After my son's funeral last Friday, my daughter and I hiked the forests of Brown County and got lost for five hours. At one point Bryn asked me if we'd have to eat her dog, Stella (who seemed to be having fun through the whole ordeal.) -Dude
