The Christmas "holiday" gets extended through New Year, and, for me and my husband, by an annual singing weekend away. We go to an Elizabethan manor house which nestles under the Quantock Hills in Somerset and sing a glorious range of music with a huge group of friends. The actual singing is not so glorious at 11 o'oclock at night in the bar, but there are no neighbours to be offended!

Well, it's over now - today I must go for a check-up at the dentist and I don't think I can put off  doing a bit of cleaning round the house (I mean a bit!) for much longer. Then I have to do my tax return, groan. But, you know what? - it's my husband's birthday tomorrow, so we can squeeze out a bit more celebration before Getting On With Things.

Thanks for all your comments guys.  And the dentist said my teeth and gums were good so I went off and bought big sticky flapjacks which I shared with a friend!

Oh, I forgot to say how much I enjoyed this.  What a wonderful tradition -- the singing weekend!

I second what Bolton said about picturesque scenes of interest to those of us across the pond. How lucky you are to have this annual singing event. I'd love to be there. As to Getting On With Things, may I put that off until May when the garden's in bloom over here?

your telling of where you live always sounds so picturesque for an american girl to read.  love it and i'd love to see you in action, especially the bar part!  and what a shame that we have to get on with things.  you took me down the path with you.

Happy Birthday to Mr Barton for tomorrow. Procrastination is a curse we all enjoy.
