The Light

What started as a flickering star in the night sky grew with brightness and fierceness until it lit her face and sparkled in her eyes. She stared at it in awe; the light held more mystery, more life, more beauty than anything she had seen in her short fourteen years of existence.

It was unearthly.

While the light was bright, she found she could stare into it without having to squint or shield her eyes. It was almost as if the light was somehow a portal to another world, a different universe; she could even see things moving inside it. Something--a being of some sort, though it resembled nothing she had ever seen or heard of--reached out to her, grasped her hand and pulled her into the calm bliss of the light.
