What can YOU say in six sentences?
At Harry’s suggestion I restacked these in order for those that did not read The Homecoming first.
The Homecoming
The phone rang four times, but no one answered. The grandfather’s clock bonged and played Westminster’s, which no one heard.
A faithful spotted dog sat by his side licking the last few drops of blood that oozed from his master’s body just before the flicker of life left his heart.
Down the street his small boy skipped; because daddy was coming home today. Then he brought in the garbage cans just as mommy pulled into the driveway behind a rental car.
They grabbed the helium balloons, ran to the front door and flung it open—
Surprise!
The Homecoming II
Released from their tight grip, helium balloons bobbed up and down, to and fro across the ceiling. Jerry and Sue huddled together in disbelief; before she screamed into the phone at the 911 operator, “My husband was killed.”
Duke walked towards them with blood on his fur, head down but tail wagging while sirens blared in the distance.
Did the Grimaldi’s deem further punishment and follow him home from prison?
As the emergency medical team pronounced Buddy dead, the blinking light on the answering machine caught Sue’s attention; mindlessly she pushed the button.
“Jerry’s next.”
