In Gehenna the children of those who feared  Moloch were pitched into fire as priests danced their revels and fathers bowed low in appeasement.

The children took their revenge, became devils, rose up from the fire and spread among the Israelites; they took every tenth man, chained each by the neck and led them to Sodom where angels of Yahweh awaited.

The angels paid the devils in silver and brought the Israelites inside the gates, and stretched them on racks, took their pleasure, and then, wielding swords, slew them all; the devils they welcomed into the fleshpots...

A drifter on trial escaped from his judges and, when he hid in the bowels of the city, saw angels fleeing as fire broke out in the Den Of Blue Lights, and saw, above this, molten rock raining down and the fire rising to meet it; he carried with him forever the atonal shrieking of 10,000 throats.

He made his way to Gehenna half-crazed and told the priests of the birth of the Red God he'd witnessed, there in the sky above Sodom, who rolled through the hills now, raging, insane, with Cthulhian hunger for all the born and unborn.

The priests prayed to Moloch but Moloch had fled and the fire consumed them and, after feasting, the drifter made off with their gold and the ashes of children...

... the atonal shrieking of 10,000 throats... frightened me more than the wrath of Moloch or Yahweh.  Insanely powerful images in this one.

And yet, the drifter survives, like a cockroach.
