I hate this. Every year, I wonder how we should spend our last hours together, but we continue as normal because it's what we know. Visits are closer together as you grow older, and hopefully, you will soon understand how much our world lights up when you enter it. Some days you are going to hate me because I am not your mom (and well, you are about to be a teenager), but I know you love me as I love you. Palm trees, football, middle school, and your wonderful mom and stepdad await you. All you can think about right now is your dogs tackling you when you walk through that door for the first time all summer.

Thanks, Bolton. Just left a couple of hours ago. It's quiet here with the girl sleeping. I am looking for freelance gigs, feeling inadequate and sorry for myself. Need to get over that attitude. Maybe I will write lesson plans. FUN! :/

Thanks all. I wish it wasn't nonfiction, but we are still blessed to see him every summer.

Lucky boy. I love the phrase "what we know." So true.
