She was an excellent cook, she never measured anything and it always turned out "perfect". We never had the traditional turkey with trimmings, instead we continued the tradition of my grandparents; pork roast, yellow rice, red beans, sweet potatoes, plantains, and pasteles (similar to tamales) - um, um, good! She delighted in the preparation, and the fun of getting everything together, as she tried to keep all of us out of the kitchen when we tried to sample some of the goodies. Music was playing, some of us were dancing, others were playing games with the children, others were remembering loved ones and she was in all of her glory in that kitchen in the Bronx far away from her beautiful island. She was the one who kept us together. She was our mom and we loved her. Irma

a heartfelt tribute to your mom... and of course, the Latino community in the Bronx is still following that tradition.

That sounds like a tasty Thanksgiving menu to me! Nice memories and tribute, hope you're cooking some of this up on Thursday!
