Dedicated to the memory of one of those truly rare individuals, who enriched not only my life but the lives of everyone he knew, taken too soon, sadly missed.
1. Life should be measured in explosions, the more unintentional the better, the sort of philosophy which could only be propounded by someone who donated a finger to rocket fuel research.
2. Genius depends on your point of view, I knew you were one because of all the things you knew which I didn’t, and you thought I was one for, I suspect, much the same reasons.
3. Vampire stories will keep the class interested and attentive even if they never work out how they relate to inorganic chemistry, it took me a while I’m sorry but I got there eventually.
4. Insults should never be explained, if the person is too stupid to work out that you have just called them an idiot just leave them looking perplexed.
5. If in doubt give it a go, you never know it might be so crazy that it works, further to this if you are tossing up between two possibilities go with your gut and try them both.
6. Laugh at your misfortunes and turn them into opportunities, every silver lining may have a cloud but shine a light on it and there will also be a rainbow.
7. Chemical reactions have been known to respond to both bribery and threats – the skill is in knowing which one to employ.
8. There is nothing odd about loving both rugby league and classical music, be confident in yourself and others will respect your choices.
9. Don’t be afraid to use mentors to their fullest extent while you still have them and the best legacy you can leave is that of inspiration.
Thank you so much for being my teacher, my colleague, a mentor and a friend, I only hope that I can live up to your opinion of me. I will miss you but with the help of the things you taught me I can always carry your advice with me. Now that I have remembered how to laugh it does not hurt quite so much that you have gone.
