What can YOU say in six sentences?
It's quiet here. Simple: that's the word. I could ride a bike down the middle of the street, take a walk at midnight, and sit the baby on my lap in the car. Beer from a can, wine coolers on the porch, homemade potato salad, and grilled dogs with relish make me forget the tastes of the city. Cars stay parked in their driveways with doors unlocked. Visitors are always welcome.

Comment by Cita on July 15, 2012 at 11:38am Simple, yes, but often the human lives are just as complicated underneath the hum of the cicadas. Makes them worth writing about, as Harper Lee and others knew.

Comment by Mike Handley on July 15, 2012 at 10:58am I've lived in many. I've also lived well outside any town, large or small. For me, the word is privacy. No, wait ... maybe it's unfettered.
Comment by Angela on July 14, 2012 at 10:41pm Are you that new family that just moved in across the street? ;)
You sum it all up. Everyone needs to know there are still places like this. Now go sit in a swing.
This six is like a wood porch and swing, a cold glass of iced tea with a wedge of lemon. Love it. Small towns rule. Cities are for getting mentally tasered and burned out. Small towns are for real lives, real people. Peace. Faved.
Comment by Gita on July 14, 2012 at 4:56pm Absolutely right about the peace of mind that allows you to park without locking. When we lived out in the country we hardly ever locked the doors of anything. The tool shed had three walls so we could drive the mower in and out. Thank you for the reminder. I have missed it fiercely since moving to the city.
Comment by Joey Delgado on July 14, 2012 at 1:42pm Well written, simple imagery, and potato salad. All my favorite things. Nice job, Jen. :)
