Sometimes, sleep wraps itself around me like a beloved friend, and seamlessly, today becomes tomorrow.     Sometimes, it teases,  dancing just out of reach.

When my husband calls, sleep runs to him like a dog,  loyal and loving.  For me, sleep is a cat, willful and wild.  Chase a cat and she runs away. Sit still and she approaches, purring in your arms when you least expect it.

nice metaphor ;) however in my experience all you need to call a cat is a stinky meat treat... not sure I want to sleep with that smell around ;)

Sometimes our best writing comes to us when we're asleep. I believe your cat may be your muse.

Willful cat. Isn't that the truth? Well said.

I'm sorry to hear that you've had a rough summer and glad to see that you're back.  And this is a beautiful piece.

Funny thing is that after a long period of writing nothing, this came to me almost complete during a long, sleepless night!

Well done, Ann. This REALLY works.

Thanks for the comments, and nice to see you all again--I've had a difficult summer.  It's good to be back.

this reminds me of that poem by carl sandburg about the fog.  such a peaceful way to think of it.

Good metaphor.  Cats are languid, yawning beings.

As an insomniac I can related well to this.  My husband is a great sleeper; all he has to do is put his head on the pillow.  For me the cat metaphor works--when you most want sleep, it doesn't come, but if you give up trying it approaches.
