Leaves fall, darkness falls, temperatures fall.  You and I fall together, cocooned against an uncertain winter while everything else is simply letting go.  The leaves, yes, veined like us and each twisted into its own fucked and fantastic shape.  Some fall from the very top, up where the branches reached as close to the sun as they could get; others were satisfied to adorn the abundance nearer the roots.  All surrendered in turn now, the rain bleeding them into the very earth.  The trees by their trillions.

I don't quite know how I missed this beauty.  Beautiful images, with an underlying intensity uncommon to this kind of content.

Man oh man. Somebody taller than me is going to have to get the moon down off that hook. You hung it too high, dude.

Autumn-the season that lives with wild abandon!

We should all love like that... but then there's Spring too.

Beyond beautiful words and phrases here, Bill.

"adorn the abundance nearer the roots..." that is we, and we need more of that.  blissful, beautiful.

"...surrender in turn" is the perspective only a talented writer brings, and the finale is the concerto that ends, not with a crescendo, but hushed notes played almost breathlessly into nothingness. Fine six, sir.

Line two is stunning and three made me smile with recognition.  Fucked and fantastic indeed.  My new definition of what it is to be human.

When I read the title at first I took it to be sarcastic and I thought you were going to have a little sport with those of us who've been writing autumnal sixes. But no, it's not sarcastic. It's lovely and veined with imagery. I should have more faith in you.

I can't pick a favorite line... they are all fantastic.  Is it my imagination or are the writers around here getting better and better?  "cocooned against an uncertain winter..."  "Trees by their trillions."  Bill... this really is spectacular.

love the leaves that are letting go while you're cocooned.
