Three people kicked in the door with loaded gun blazing, expecting to rip off some guy they knew had the cash to make it worthwhile. Three bullets brought down the stocky man and his weakness was the only thing that kept him from cocking his own gun and blowing them all away. One good woman called 911 and watched her man bleed out in the bedroom and it took five minutes for the ambulance to come and save him. It took two of your "friends" to throw you under the bus and three cops to put you in the car for questioning. Ten hours, DNA evidence, and your semi-confession was enough to bring you to trial. It took twelve people four days to set aside the fact that you did it when you were sixteen (poor boy?) and find in favor of the law which says you'll be going away.

************************************************

as an aside, the judge told us afterwards we worked hard and we did a good job. the other people the defendant was with was a bad bunch and they're in jail, too. i feel bad that this kid is going away...but he should have thought of the consequences before getting in that car. (he wasn't the trigger man by the way, but he was a willing participant, acting in concert, so he was guilty in 10 of 11 counts of burglary, robbery, and assault.) :(

jury service never was a bundle of laughs was it. I really like the way you told this - thank you!

... and now he is incarcerated. For many, there is too much free time and they get into trouble as a result.
