What can YOU say in six sentences?
The tears trickled down my face as I struggled manfully to stop my beating heart bursting like a buboe out of my chest. I was no longer smiling happily as I waved goodbye to the concierge of the hotel, my thoughts full of the wonderful weekend with word-wizardly writers. Sipping Sazeracs on a sizzling sidewalk; guzzling gumbo with great gusto.
It had all changed on the last evening, now blurred to a hazy recollection; we had all got together in a downtown bar and toasted the night with the cheer "Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder!" Ole Marie behind the bar muttered something about thinking a bunch of writers would have more originality and threatened us with a curse if we uttered another cliche...
I wish I could tell you what came next, I'm not sure who said that they were drunk as a proverbial skunk, but now I can't tell you I am leaving town without saying I am leaving my soul behind and my blues have no rhythmn any more.
