Grandma has a scar on the top of her wrist but never says what happened.

Mom says, “Grandma left the island abruptly, but that’s all I know.”

“I know nothing,” says Grandpa. “That happened before we met.”

And according to Aunt Mary, “The Don asked her to marry, but Grandma said, ‘No!’”

As he leaves for work, Stefano takes note but doesn’t know why.

In some places, it's not easy to have a will of ones own. Here's to Grandma!

I'm n agreement with all the comments below - but even more admiring of Stefano at taking interest in idle chatter and family history before they've all died and can no longer answer questions!!

Hi Toby. The conversation grabs Stefano’s interest and he doesn’t know why; he’s entering his adolescence years and is paying attention to dialogue he once thought as idle chatter.

Nice work, this glimpse into the lives of several members of the family, with as many stories to tell as there are members, but you've got us like flies circling around Grandma's wrist. Don't think I've commented before, but have been enjoying all your work.

Sicily?
Agree with Gita that it speaks volumes that Grandpa doesn't know (or isn't telling???)
And then what happened?

So many intriguing questions. And the title adds even more mystery. Love it! Don't leave us hanging too long.

I find it telling that Grandpa doesn't know the cause of the scar on his own wife's wrist. I love the underlying sinister secret in this. I hope more will be revealed.

Well we can figure that one out, but what about that last line? Why shouldn't Stefano know why? This is a puzzlement.
