“Pff, how difficult to inhale and exhale!” he said while he was practicing breath rehearsal.

Dust rose from the ashtray as the wind invaded his room through the open window. His coughs were interrupted by an attack of hiccups. The cup shivered in the saucer and so did that little lump of sugar, the way a scallion trembles before becoming a bulb—a trembling of the first moments of birth.

“Training for breath isn’t an easy task when you are a heavy smoker,” he added. “Like a winter sun that rises and withers, rises and withers until the hiccups of the night devour her,” he said sighing while lighting another cigarette.

'the way a scallion trembles before becoming a bulb--a trembling of the first moments of birth.' Sometimes I read a phrase and I wish there were a way to record and view the thought process that got you there to those words. Very cool. How did you come up with that?
