Only One Truck - 1933

Deer newspaperman,

No telling what happened that day. Papa was workin blowin tree stumps and mama, well, she’s worn havin seven kids an all. She jus can’t do much anymore. Anyway, the nabes knew mean Mr. Deciglio got kild that day an the brothers jus didn’t have no aliby, but you know, they didn’t go to jail because when ya call the cops they never come. In fact, we had a fire last week an it took two hours for the truck to come an when they came, they ran out of water. The fire chief said there was a fire on Park Avenue an they could only send one truck an I said, “what about the water” an he said, “only one truck.”
