October 13/#1 - October Challenge- Somewhere Between Good and Evil

There are varying stories told by long haulers, of a stretch of highway between the coasts where they say God and the Devil crossed paths while thumbing through America; wherever this stretch, it is the place of bad karma, mysterious disappearances, unexplained occurrences, where travelers inexplicably up and vanish into thin air leaving no answers or calls… just gone; and what happened at that crossroad, how it went down between God and the Devil… shit, one can only guess but some of the stories say…

 

Complete the tale in five more sentences-take all October if so inclined and repost from time to time! No prizes, just some fun, a way to kick off October. It’s like a New Yorker cartoon where you get the drawing and you have to come up with the caption.

The karmic crossroads where they met became a city, and then it got a name -- the District of Columbia-- and then all manner of good intentions paved the road to hell.

God watched in stunned amazement as Lucifer created lobbyists and a war machine shaped like a pentacle and perfumed the air with Eau de Greed.  He created Joe McCarthy and J. Edgar Hoover and Robert McNamara and Karl Rove and grinned his gums at God.

God sighed, cast a glance around the universe and decided to give over this small blue planet to Lucifer and just move on. 
The Alpha Centauri region looked far more promising, but first he hopped aboard the Mars rover, Curiosity, to revisit the pretty rocks he'd made 2 billion years before.
