He whined, then barked.  I felt a soft growl simmer in his chest.  Inside my bones I knew the sorrow of dogs.  So many words and the sounds so unlike speech.  There was heavy dew that morning, and as we wandered on the grass the soles of my feet felt cool with sweet moisture I wanted to taste.  When I stroked him, my hair grew coarser with broken curls, which I sought someone to touch, using my dark warm eyes.

a blue ribbon tale

Oh my goodness, how much truth there is in this 6. How badly we all crave touch - someone to stroke our forehead, to touch our shoulder gently, to give us a too-tight cuddle that we can't even breathe our way through. So much emotion shared in so little words. Good stuff! X

Hard to believe someone didn't beat me to my favorite line, which was the simmering growl. I love that.

Sensual, longing, the sorrow of dogs- connections- I'd tell them, "it's OK"

which I sought someone to touch... great line. Isn't that what we all do, whether dog or human.

You inhabit all your characters to an uncanny degree, and now you're inhabiting other species?!?  Convincingly?!? And this one's very economical in terms of word use, a dazzler.

the sorrow of dogs.  someone on here wrote something about that, something like, because all dogs know the exact da they're going to die. i haven't looked at my lexie the same since.

i'd ask if she will come back to me some day, in another body.

First, the piece is dramatic and longing and it's hard to say much about your writing that hasn't been said. You're just a star.

I'd ask "What's the deal with rolling around on dead stuff?"

I would ask Chester (sensitive Cairn) is he's telepathic.  I would ask Morticia (evil Ratcha) why she shits so often on my husband's side of the bed.  @Gita ~ Dogs are now trained to assist autistic children and adults through Paws 4 a Cause -- I think that's what it's called.  Dogs are an extreme benefit to humans who can't speak.  As if they speak the same non-verbal language.

@ Gita - I would ask, "Am I good enough for you?"  How about you?  What would you ask?
