I can’t remember when or why he came into my life but we’ve been friends for a lot of years. We always make each other smile and I hate leaving him out there in that storm.

I even gave him his own solar light so he could read at night and in the summer he wallows in a bed of flowers but in the last month or so that smile has turned into a snarky smirk; you can see it in his dark fallows of forgotten summers and we communicate less than he prefers.

I guess the affinity is we look alike, (ex stache) and I’m hoping my chi (outlook) is just as bright and serene.

Yes, life can be a plaster facade we all don with impunity and purpose, because we choose to share unbridled love with only those that give it back.

My little guy has a first class space in the world of love and nature and when the darkest clouds gather and the coldest winds blow may we all find a pair of warm arms, an understanding heart and a kindred soul to get us through the many wintery storms of life.

Powerful final sentence, there, Edward.  "May we all" indeed.

...and a kind human willing to provide a solar light...;-)  He looks so serene there.  Cold but focused.  Nice one.

Ed, a touching story, but the last line brought it home. The shot of him so perfect; I waited for him to open his eyes.

loved this, and i feel so bad for him... please scoop out the snow and let him be warm again. i realize this is a really ridonkulous thing to say because terra cotta/resin figures aren't real, but you go ahead and tell that to my stuffies that i can't let go still living in my bedroom, grown woman proof that toy story ain't such a story after all. i love his grin and your placement and the care and life you give him. now brush out the snow, because i sure would hate all that crap built up around my head, and thank you for sharing your chi.

(agree w/ mike, i like this voice of yours, more please)

A big amen to sentence six! John Lennon wrote "And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make."  That's a good reminder about gathering people around you whom you love because they're the ones who will get you through the winters of your life.

I loved every line of this Ed- even that you've shed a little light on him- a great piece

Very nice, Ed, a side of you and your writing I haven't seen yet. You should do more like it. As to the photo, I can't help thinking the little dude's taking a bubble bath!
