She woke up because she heard the trees whispering. She was confused at first, but then she realized, they were too. They had never found someone who had heard their stories, their questions. They told her what they'd seen - the couple that never left the tent - giggling through the night, the girl who was lost, the man who turned the gun on himself. She told them about love, about fear, about jokes, and sex, about loneliness and desperation. When dawn came and everything fell quiet again, she left her locket hanging from a branch, and walked on.

Outside my window it's stormy and gray right now, there is a draft and I'm shivering while I read this but not because I'm cold.

I tend to take things literally. I see "her" actually whispering with the trees, a scene I thoroughly dig and envy. I want to talk to the trees and and stones and even the birds. Her connection and leaving of locket, all very sweet. Nicely done.

A mysterious story with much left untold. Was she ever found? Was he ever found?
