Living out my lease in a now almost-abandoned home didn't sound so bad two days ago. Two days ago, when the weather was still nice, and my roommate was still around, staying put was easy and rational.

Now the thunderclouds are brewing, and my imagination is too.

The high temperatures whittle away at my desire for security, until every window is open to the storm's cooler air. Suspicious sounds are blocked by my fan's gentle roar.

But my imagination will not shut off, and the empty walls and the full boxes are props for my mind's play.

Thanks, everyone. I'm all moved in to a new place with a new roommate, and life is good again.

Little one can do in such a situation.  Best wishes in the changes you are making.

I would be like you--petrified by every creak.

Familiar and very very real. If I ever live alone again, there will be a big BIG dog companion. Their ears will do the listening for you so you can relax.
