I do a lot of waiting,

and listening.

I do a lot of silent staring,

and I do a lot of daydreaming.

I do a lot of problem solving,

some on my own book,

some on his.

I do a lot of list making,

crossing out,

and drinking after six.

I do a lot of dreaming about water,

about cock,

about getting on the right bus,

about sorting through what is

worthwhile and what is not.

I do a lot of waiting,

and there is no way,

now,

to fence me in.

What Bill said and your scratched off list is impressive.  Beautiful work.

I enjoyed the rhythm of this, as others have said - and enjoyed the fifth sentence, as others have said, too.

Hells yes.  Especially that last revelatory gift.  The pacing and cadence is deft.

The next time you are sitting and waiting, you might do what I do:  play movie star-related Six Degrees of Separation. For example, how would you get from Lyle Lovett to Ed Asner (Lou Grant)?

How would you get from John Cleese to Jennifer Aniston?

Your poem is wonderful. I loved

Excellent all the way through, including what you have already crossed off today.

Thank you.  I am re-reading this in the early morning.  It is already hot.  I've already crossed things off the list:

feed horses

set gates

water garden

water boss's garden

water boss's houseplants

turn on water at barn

drink two cups of coffee out of doors while I waaaaaaaandeeerrrrrrr

love it!  it so suits your personality, too.  the sentiment at the end especially.  (and i think the drinking only gets you going more!) :)
