He scavenged the parts for his new body from all around the alleys and back streets. A discarded umbrella pulled from a bin made for an arm, its crook a hand. A length of rusting drainpipe and a rotting timber almost the same length made a workable pair of legs. A black plastic rubbish sack, its soiled cartons and rotting fruit for internal organs, would be his torso. A crumpled orange traffic-cone would do for his other arm and a punctured football his head. It all made for a poor, broken body but at least, when it was dark, he could walk the streets again and imagine he was still alive.

Do that, Simon. I can see quite a few of the 6S stories being developed into longer ones. Six sentences is about my concentration span at the moment, between doing other things, but who knows what the future will bring. My hubby and I have plans for several traffic cones, but whether the idea will ever bear fruit is anyone's guess. Perhaps when I have finished some of my other 6S projects it may be a case of 'watch this space!'.

Thanks Diana. Yes, it's good to put one to a good use. This little story stayed with me, actually, and has turned into 3000 word short story. I'll let you know if and when it appears!

Just stumbled upon this, Simon. I have an affinity with abandoned traffic cones, so am pleased to see that you have made good use of one.

Cool! It's like the scary Ghost of Snowmen Past.

Hi all,

Thanks for your comments all. Glad you enjoyed it. I might develop the piece into something longer; a proper story to see what does actually happen to him!

Teresa - that's exactly what I was aiming for so I'm pleased you thought that!

This is so sad for some reason. It reminds me a little of Edward Scissorhands and Frankenstein. Broken people with mismatched parts, the undead or the idea of reanimation remind me that people are imperfect to begin with, that our lives are fragile and ephemeral. I really enjoyed your originality.
