Grocery Shopping with a Different Kind of Jack-1960 Style

The doors swung open as we entered… all by themselves, and we thought that was some sort of magic. And it was…  seeing that, hanging out with Ma and hoping for a toy. Then at the checkout we eased the glaring boxes to the front, afraid that mom would run out of money before the cashier got to them. And couldn’t wait to find what kind of prizes were inside. Maybe a tattoo, though they never worked on me because I over licked my arms and the design always appeared blurry, but anyway we thought we were getting over. But now we realize Mom let us have our way, at least for two boxes of Cracker Jacks.

The first line about thinking automatic doors were magic was cool. It's a very kid thing to think. Nice story, Stephen.

Fantastic. I love all of the little details. This line is my favorite: Then at the checkout we eased the glaring boxes to the front, afraid that mom would run out of money before the cashier got to them. But i favorited the whole thing :)

Cracker Jacks.  I LOVED those.  My older brother used to sneak in extra toys for me.  Ahhh, the good days.  I could still eat those three meals a day.  Is anything that innocent anymore?
