Stopped in my tracks, coffee in hand on the way to the car to watch the dew weeping from juniper and mulberry with the sun peeping out behind distant rooftops feeling consumed by something so pretty.

Stopped at the gas station for my daily bread on the way to the job, the scent of salty garlic bagel wafting over from the passenger seat, really looking forward to the 10 o’clock coffee break.

Cruising 84, eyes on the lookout for Johnny Law, but my mind is all about the music right now. How is it that I can “see” this song playing before my eyes in little bursts, feeling that feeling again welling up from inside and could I stand before the law and say in truth I am in control of my vehicle?

I want to taste the sweat that lies on his neck vein, take his temperature with my hands, I am completely not where I belong right now (in reality) feeling overwhelmed by sensual morning things.  Can any other creature claim to see, hear, and feel like this while performing complex tasks, or are humans just that exceptional, and if we are, why are we blessed so?

'...I am completely not where I belong right now (in reality) feeling overwhelmed by sensual morning things.'

I absolutely love this passage and this piece. It's evident you feel deeply about the look of things, the smell, the taste, the sight. You write about sense perception of the world so well, sitting in my room reading about it is just as good. :) Nicely done.

No ma'am.  I don't think just anybody can do this.  It doesn't make the ones who can more exceptional (nothing wrong with the word choice cuz I sure can't think of better), just more talented joy jugglers, high wire walkers, able to dance in two places at once.  It's a mind-blowing gift to be in two places, here and, the other here.  That place they talk about all the time, the one that waits for us to die, no, it doesn't wait.  It's where you are when you open up, straddle reality, tuck in between that juniper and mulberry where it's safe to drown in bliss.  There is another place these talented folks can visit, another other, but we don't want to talk about that one.  Beautiful, beautiful write.

hello from my own little world (so glad to have company like you all.)

Bill Lapham, I heard you loud and clear.  I took the chance and used "exceptional" anyway, but with the question mark. it would be foolish to believe we're just all that, and i know it.

Cruising 84 and feeling atop the world is a good thing. Excellent writing, Kristine.

Kristine, your writing made me think of a quote by Oscar Wilde  ~ I think God, in creating man, somewhat overestimated his ability. I like writing that makes me think.

I enjoyed this piece so much, being one who is described as living in her "own little world".  Personally, I live for moments like the one you describe, and I am touched by your ability to capture it.

What Galen said. Your cyber pen is oozing pheromones.

Beautifully written, especially #5.

We are able to see and hear and do things while another part of us THINKS about something entirely other because we have both a cerebral cortex and a cerebellum. Our human brain is an insanely well made computer with RAM and ROM, with different lobes assigned to perform different tasks. We have a sympathetic and a parasympathetic and an autonomic nervous system. To me the real question is, with all that braininess, how come we still fight wars and pollute the planet?

Excellent introspective piece Kristine.

The term autopilot is how we live most of our life. The dynamic is to be aware, the exceptional is to be able to change.

Call it what you like--evolution, God-endowed soul, the sheer wanton joy of the blood in our veins and music in our ears--I'll take it.

By the way, few writers could capture the happiness in simply driving into work this way.  Made my day.
