Dragonflies, Squares and Swirls; we are made up of beauty and chaos trying to escape limiting boundaries.

In my youth I tried to fly beyond the square, away from the box of my upbringing that had me contained, conditioned and internally criticized. Determined to be nothing like my parents,I formed circles of friends that hovered over me flickering their wings of freedom showing me the ways of swirling exploration.

Now half way through my life I fly back to the box, jump inside and say to my younger self; It's OK, you are worthwhile and the box is only where you came from, it does not determine where you will go.

I begin to trust myself and my heart becomes increasingly full. Like Alice in Wonderland, I instantly out grow the box with my feet breaking through the bottom until I almost wear my past around my body like armor or a strapless mini dress of cardboard.

I had to read because you mentioned dragonflies...

That first sentence is stunning.  I don't have the same experience so it is hard to relate to the rest.  In other words, my square has never been armor or any type of strapless (carefree) mini dress.  I'm not in it but the square is always around me, like the lemon smell of Pledge after dusting.  Beautiful piece.

Lovely. The whole Alice in Wonderland analogy worked for me. It's not a bad idea to keep the box with you while you fly away. That box is exactly what saved me from a cocaine addiction many years ago. I heard the voices of my parents after a binge and they were voices of love and concern that brought me back to sanity.

Nice six, Paxton.
