Like the wind, change was inevitable, but even so, the news surprised her. In the space of sixty seconds she was – in theory - homeless. She decided to act as if nothing had happened. After all, an extreme reaction might provoke an equal and opposite reaction – like 'get out now' - which she wanted to avoid. He was pleasant enough afterwards, offered her half a carton of carrot and coriander soup, which he'd heated in the microwave. No, you finish it, she said, so he did.
