It crept forward, unhurried. Globules of saliva dangled from its mouth like glinting skewers.

Fear churned with fathomless spite, adrenaline swilled in his stomach and it gurgled. The odd sensation seeped through thinly encrusted cells as he watched the creature advance, and a breath lodged in his throat, held his lungs to ransom.

Wide eyes penetrated the dusk, as though to lure, and they mesmerised him as the creature slowly inched forward, sinewy body poised.

He could run, but he didn't want to, and chose instead to face the creature, entranced by this game.

It blinked, and for a moment a sense of true darkness descended, before its reflective eyes locked onto him, sensing vulnerability, and then it silently jumped at him, sank its claws into his flesh.

He recoiled, heard his scream fill the corners of the room. 'Jesus, Jake, you bloody mad cat!'

Ha I loved the ending to this. Only thing is it makes me fear cats even more now.
