What follows a true story, accurate to the extent that my 30-year-old memories will allow.

Commemorating Banned Books Week

When the crusader for book banning came to English class that day, we were prepared to defend our reading assignment, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich; we didn't expect it to be so easy.

"What is your objection to this book, exactly?"

"The inappropriate language; there's far too much swearing and cursing," he said, while the newspaperman in the corner took notes.

"And the mocking of religion, do you also take issue with that?"

The look on his face made it clear to all present, before he'd even confessed; he hadn't--and wouldn't--read it.

The story ran, and we finished our semester, and the book, in peace.

Brav-fuckin-O! The book burners/banners often do not read the books themselves. They just take someone else's word that the book is "bad."
In fact, I will go out on a limb and say that book banners are often people who don't read, period. Great six, man.
