Ever wonder what it would be like to hear the actual voices of your writer friends here at 6S, to breathe the same air, and to break bread and tilt back a wine glass or cup of joe with them?

Ever think about how fun it must be to climb into a treehouse with a gaggle of kindred spirits who appreciate words on a page or screen, who actually read them instead of politely clicking "like" on Facebook?

If so, then mark your calendars and pawn something; put in for vacation time; find baby- and pet-sitters; and buy one of those big wall calendars and a Sharpie to mark off days.

The third annual House of Writers gathering (HoW3, for short) will convene at Spirit Lake near Oskaloosa, Kansas, July 25-29. It's not quite an hour's drive from the Kansas City, Mo., airport (MCI).

The first HoW was in New Orleans; last year's in Blowing Rock, N.C.; and this one was moved westward to accommodate those who live west of the Mississippi.

We'll be renting two large houses on a private lake, and half the bedrooms are already reserved. There's a one-bedroom guest house five minutes away, and then motels that'll require a 30- to 45-minute commute from either Lawrence or Leavenworth.

We'll write, read aloud, discuss life and words, laugh, cry, dance and not want to go home.

If you're interested in getting a bedroom or a bunk at the lake itself, I'll need a $160 deposit ASAP. Bed/room/house are first-come, first-choice.

Make checks payable to Mike Handley and send to:  3395 Cloverdale Rd., Montgomery, AL 36106, or e-mail me at mikehandley@mac.com if you need more information.

Are there any accountants, lawyers or tax specialists among us? I've been seriously thinking about the whole tax-deductible-writing-seminar thing to help us defray the costs of attending HoW.  I need more information, though.

Sounds like T, K, and I are game for bunkbeds....

LOL at Gita's fishing.  I love water and hope we swim.  Sandra, breakfast is going to be fun if I can find a grocery store with T.

My plans are iffy, though.  Just warning all of you. There are reasons I can't type here, but hope to tell you in person.

deposit mailed, bad airline dreams have begun (truly), days off from work secured. bunkbed could be cool... last time i had a (gorgeous!) bedroom and bathroom all by my lonesome which in some ways was nice, but...   DO NOT forget THE COFFEE!   i snore but not chainsawingly so, and probably by the time we hit the hay you won't notice anyway.

SO SO SO looking forward to seeing everyone and hearing the words and voices. and soaking up the vibe and inspiriation.
