Chapter One, the first six of my NaNoWriMo

The news item in the Montreal Gazette on page C-4 took exactly one minute to read. She had been the fifth jumper in as many years, anonymous, shabbily dressed, shredded by the oncoming subway train. She’d had no purse and nothing in her pockets.

Video of the platform showed her standing stock-still in profile as one train after another stopped at the Rue Laurier Metro station, her thin face marked by a port wine stain on the cheek facing the camera.
She had waited intentionally for the 9:23 express, the train that blasts through without slowing. Then: she was a sudden blur in the air, the train a fusillade of steel and hot wheels that hit her first and then ran over her 30 yards later.

Well, you made my opening sound rubbish.  :)  Last year was so simple - I finished in eight days - but this year it's day 12 and I'm stuck with only 2000 words under my belt.  :(  How far are you now?

Best of luck with this.  It's a wonderful opening that begs for more.  So many questions can unravel out of this paragraph.

there certainly is a novel in this... too much to say in six.

the reader will want to get on the train and find out what the heck just happened here?

Powerful opening.  This is going to be something wonderful, Gita.  It is a story long in the waiting, I think.

Huge, impactful start - that 'shredded' incredibly visual.   Stick at it, so we can all enjoy the end result.
