I remember how that first kiss took us both by surprise, having known each other for so long.

I remember how we took things slowly, neither of us sure where it was heading.

I remember when we moved in together we said, ‘Let's just see how it goes.’

I remember the many happy years that followed, creating memories all over the world.

I remember the times I would ask where our future lay, and how the shrug of your shoulders deepened the cracks.

I remember how you cried when I said I could wait no longer, we’d traveled full circle yet were still at opposite ends.

To accurately describe the rise and fall of a complicated relationship in six sentences seems difficult, but you made it look easy, and did it so beautifully. Well done. :)

I loved, "the shrug of your shoulders deepened the cracks."  Lovely six.

wow.  you were reminding me of my own beginnings, but mine had a little different ending.  i noted in your writing that it still comes from a happy place though, as did your comments below.  that may be even a bigger story to cover.

Ah, thanks Angela.   It was a good run indeed, and one I look back with fondness not regret.

Justine, I enjoyed your comment almost as much as your six.  I expected a "happy ending" to this, until I got to the fourth line.  I thing the word "ask" was the only clue you gave that things might not be ideal.  Sounds like it had a pretty good run.

Either will work, as long as you're both singing from the same hymn sheet.

Commitment is so pesky. On the one hand, there was all that lovely travel and who needs a piece of paper? On the other hand there is no ring.  Both are right, in a way, aren't they?
