Ben stopped self actualizing and mistook his metropolitan habitat for himself. As he listened to the sirens, he wove an abstraction of urgency and belonging, as if by even hearing an emergency go by that he, himself, was a part of it. Nevermind the tragedy. Nevermind the distance.. Nevermind the absent, indulgent self-sycophancy. When Ben diminished to personalizing, he ceased to be a person.

There is an awful set of thinking that can occur when one is alone in a crowd, regardless of the size.  Fine write.

The city can swallow you up. Sometimes, you swallow the city. Sometimes the lines get blurred. This is a good six.
