Most every day, in the mornings especially, Parker liked to hide from himself. Without a word, he’d head off to below the underneath. He could lose himself there in dryer lint, empty pockets and bagatelles that made him laugh. His heart was never cold there and he never had to blink. Below, below, below, below.
