What can YOU say in six sentences?
Yorkshire has given birth to many famous sons and daughters. Perhaps three of our most well-known and much loved literary stars were the Bronte sisters. Sadly they all died at a young age but not before leaving us such stories as Jane Eyre written by Charlotte, Wuthering Heights by Emily and The Tennant of Wildfell Hall by Anne.
I’m now able to bring you to the graveside of Anne as I was asked to draw this picture by the Scarborough branch of The Bronte Society for their fund-raising.
I’d love to take you further up the coast to Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay, but I didn’t draw any pictures of these places back in the 1970s and 80s. I’ll have to take you inland instead and away from the sea. Perhaps I ought to sharpen my pencils and try to pick up where I left off back then; if I did, I doubt whether the finished results would contain as much details as my old drawings.

Ravi - My pencil sharpener is at the ready and only you know what my first project will be!
Wow! I didn't know about the Bronte sisters! Thank you for taking us there. And yes, do sharpen your pencils.
Comment by Beth Overmyer on October 11, 2012 at 4:34pm Lovely drawing, Diana!
I didn't know the Brontes were from Yorkshire. Jane Eyre might be one of my favorite books. It's at least in the top twenty.
Thanks for sharing your talents with us! It's really fun seeing Yorkshire and learning about it :)
Comment by Diana E. Backhouse on October 11, 2012 at 11:27am Stephen - I am trying not to get sidetracked this time.
Michael - Thank you once again for you kind words.
Jamie - It's virtually just you and me!
Gita - As we are heading into the city next, we won't find much in the way of flora and fauna, but I will bear your request in mind.
Comment by Gita on October 11, 2012 at 10:11am As always, admiring your work and feeling thankful for the chance to visit places I've never seen. Would you provide a detail here and there about the flora and types of trees or minerals in the area we're looking at? Those little specifics make a place more real to me (Miss Picky). Thank you.
Comment by Jamie Hogan on October 11, 2012 at 9:06am I will keep following. I'm not sure if I could enjoy it more if I were actually there. You have a lovely way of making each of these feel personal, like it's just yourself and the reader.
Comment by Michael Brown on October 11, 2012 at 2:18am Sorry to be reminded of the brevity of the ladies' lives, but the pictures transcend the situations. I love that you were able to get such fine detail out of your sketches. The grays are enchanting, and your guide's voice has me on the spot(s).
