We had been back in our house for some months when 7th grade started. Over the summer we replaced a few yards of dirt that had slide downhill, exposing one of the stilt’s foundations.

I started 7th grade at Mt. Gleason Junior High School in September; my first class was beginning woodwinds which I did not sign up for. The teacher, Mr. Lipschultz, told us too many had signed up for choir and he chose the most responsible names for his class (how can a name be responsible?). I started with the clarinet but my orthodontist said drums or oboe. Over the next three years I got to be not too terrible on the oboe.

Pa was forced to be a hobo

Because he played the oboe

And the oboe it is clearly understood

Is an ill wind that nobody blows good.

So odd how we get routed by outside forces into our young lives.  Glad the oboe worked out for you.  Good job.

I love the sound of the oboe. My elder daughter played oboe for a few years.
