It's far too long since I promised you a trip to the seaside, Gita, so before I resume my tour of Yorkshire, I'm taking you on a whirlwind trip to Bridlington on the East Coast.

Step inside the Ragged Adventurer and we'll travel through the time portal to meet up with five generations of my family.

We'll go back to the 1930s first to watch a Punch and Judy show with my Great Aunt and my mother's cousin  (he is the babe in arms); then to the 1940s to join my little self, my sister, parents and grandparents. I think I'd like to linger here a while, back in the days before life and responsibilities got a grip, then on into the 1970s to join with my young daughters as they enjoy themselves jumping up and down on the trampoline blissfully unaware of the ups and downs that life was holding in store.

Finally to the 21st century: do you fancy a paddle and  making a sandcastle along with my granddaughters?

As the sun fades, I think we better leave the beach and catch one of the land trains

to trundle along the cliff tops to Sewerby Hall, the destination for the next leg of my tour.

Gita, I'd never forget to keep my promise to you. I'm just sorry it took me so long.
