He sits in the chair and Giuseppe asks, “What’ll it be young man?”

Stefano looks into the mirror and says, “A regular, you know… taper the sides and back and a little off on top.”

“Yes,” says Giuseppe, “winter’s coming and it’s chilly today, so how about an eye opener?” Stefano looks toward the mahogany table below the mounted television and sees a bottle of cognac and gleaming shot glasses lined in front.

“Sure,” says the young customer, “I’ll have a shot.” The barber pours and both imbibe a morning delight before the main event.

Yes, the razor and strap are still used especially in the Greek and Italian barbershops. And the holidays are upon us so be prepared for the spirits... cognacs, whiskies, and grappas.

I just know that Giuseppe uses hot towels and a straight razor. You don't mention it, but I heard the thwap-thwap of the razor on the strap. Damn, I miss that.

I bet Stefano gets as many haircuts as he can afford. Great little slice of the neighborhood, Stephen.

I've only ever been offered coffee at the hairdressers.

I have to love a place where an adult beverage is an accepted morning ritual.  Makes the mundane a special event.  Great, as always.
