The senior leaders plan to revolt because they were not paid, yet they decide to allow their commanding officer to say a few words prior to carrying out their plan. The leaders assemble in an upstate New York village and while the commander looks into their angry eyes he unveils his spectacles and places them upon his aging face. He tells his subordinate leaders that age is catching up with him and to please excuse the infirmity.

And though he tells his chiefs to keep the faith in their fledging country, the simple act of placing his eyeglasses upon his nose, this moment of parity, translates to an act of kindness that causes the senior leaders to end their revolt. Not words, but a simple act of equality… a gesture of parity... changes the minds of seasoned soldiers. This event is known as the Newburgh Address and if you ever read the oration, picture a middle aged man placing spectacles upon his aging face addressing battle hardened veterans, words that are important but a gesture that changes history.
