I once visited a fortune teller in San Francisco who claimed to have a powerful deck of cards. I carefully picked one from the deck and handed it to her. With a look of horror on her face, she loudly announced, “You picked the death card.”  I told her, “Oh good, this reminds me of a poem by Rumi who said, ‘Die before your death’.” She replied, “You seem to welcome it.” I stated, “Yes because it’s time to let go of my false ego self.”

The death card often means change or a new beginning :)  It's so good to peel our layers back and get a good feel of who really exists beneath our skin.

It's in the Bible and many other places, "die to the world", "die to the self", "die to truly live".  We shed our skins over and over again, reveal more of the divine self.  I don't think we build a life or create an identity.  I think it's all a process of getting rid of, cleaning up, dying and sloughing off.  Our purest state is often on our deathbeds.  In the most ideal of situations, we are more alive, spiritually, than ever before.  And lighter.  And I agree that the death card is a good one, no matter how much shedding takes place.

"die, before you die"

When you said that, I'm sure she did't have an answer to have you return. Witty answer!

Very powerful last line Payam but I would debate that is not entirely possible.

Change; amend; modify; but let go??????

I've heard that the Death card can be a sign of change for the good.  You have the right attitude.
