I used to watch the Olympics with such excitement. I would watch for hours, dreaming of the day when I would join the ranks of the American Olympians.

Every time the Olympics came around, I would think, "In four years, I'll be ___ years old, and then I'll still be really young and really good at _______ sport," or I would think, "Maybe I should just do __ sport because really, how hard could that be?" But the thing is, I've never been quite that good at _______ sport or __ sport.

The closest I've come to Olympic achievement is 41 seconds away from the 1500m qualifying time.

So this year as I watch the Olympics, I get depressed because I realize that I will never be one of them.

I knew it wasn't close, close, but it is way better than what I could do. Thanks for the encouragement! :)

Well, thanks. For the record, 41 seconds in a 1500 is a really long time so don't think that I'm close to qualifying or anything.

And Jen, YOU CAN DO IT! The most important part of training is training your brain to believe that your body can do the work.

Oh, man. I am scared that I am not going to be able to run a 5K in Sept., so don't worry about your "underachievement".  Great six.

A great six sentences on disappointment. There you go, you can write about anything. You may not be the best fencer in the world, but you can write. How awesome is that?
