‘At that party’ … he paused, making sure I could remember.

‘It was only last week’

‘Well, at one point I was thinking isn’t it odd how one’s mother can suddenly be seen as glamorous.’

Since he is a lad who generally tends towards insult, I held my tongue, startled, and he continued ‘Well, you know how it is when you see people you know in strange situations …’

‘ … Yes.’

‘It was when you were talking to those tweed-jacketed Welsh retired teachers.’

@ Mike - I doubt he'd've noticed me at all in those circumstances!

@ Teresa - just say 'no' otherwise he'll never learn the value of money OR to stand o his own two feet ...

At least he isn't sucking on your wallet.  I'd rather suffer cheap insults than the "Hey, could you deposit $100 since I'm a little low and, I could really use something extra for new shoes."  He's almost 23.  Jeesh...

Good thing you weren't seen in the company of a troupe of strippers. The poor lad might've fainted.

Regrettably Gita, at the time he was some two hundred miles away ... I have to store the slaps up for when I see him. (and yes, I was wearing that jacket!)

Were you wearing that silver and black jacket?

Here in the United States we have a thing called a "dope-slap" which is a slap administered by a parent to the side or back of the head of an insolent son or daughter. It is not hard enough to incur brain damage and costly medical bills. But it is emotionally satisfying to the parent.
