Some people seem to fear the coming end to the Mayan calander. There are a few facts that should be shared with the masses especially on the computer after the turning of the year 2000. The Mayans had positional mathmatics and also a zero but they also believed that there had been 4 worlds created and destroyed before our current world. They also believed in 13 heavens and 9 underworlds thus the number 13 was a sacred and lucky number. The Maya were worshippers of time as is shown in their earliest inscriptions recording the pasage of time. The end of the Mayan calander come on the 12th month of the 12th year of the 2nd millenium but let the Mayans bury the Mayan and look forward to the 13th that follows.

@Judy ~ I'm in!
I have some slightly off the wall friends who truly believe that we are, once again, doomed. They seem to thrive on this. Throw in the rising of the oceans and Elvis sightings and they're in hog heaven. What is interesting, so many of them are not Mayans. Or Elvis.
Simon, we could have a 12/12 /12 party right here. Oh, what fun. 12s instead of 6s for 12 days...
Comment by Simon Halliday on June 19, 2012 at 3:27pm Can non-Mayans come to the Mayan 2012 End-of-it-all parties ?
Nice, Steve.
I like the phrase 'let the Mayans bury the Mayan' - a nice metaphor for letting people take the consequence of irrational belief ?
I can't wait to see how the world reacts this December. I'm sure it will try to make some money off irrational fear. Money they can spend in one of the 13 heavens or 9 hells. Unless non-Mayans aren't allowed in either place. Interesting thoughts.
