What can YOU say in six sentences?
Steve Harvey stated in his book Act Like A lady, Think Like A Man that any man who approaches a woman wants to sleep with her.
He also stated that men cheat for many reasons, one being that they can't go without sex for longer than a minute, "He's got to try to feel better some kind of way, and so he's going to get sex from someone if he can't get it from you."
Regarding women choosing not to take men's last names after marriage he wrote, "We also need to know that we have your loyalty, and you show that by taking our name...we really don't care how important your dad's name or your family name is to you."
His opinion of interracial dating was interesting and an ugly seed to plant or feed, "If she's doing it for some kind of status, then that's a horrible reason to be married to someone from a different race."
Steve and his father had a heart-to-heart with a boy who wanted to date Steve's daughter, "Finally, under the pressure of the questioning, the squared shoulders and two straight-faced black men making it clear we know the game, the boy finally broke down..."
It is disturbing that Steve assumes the reader will recognize that "black men" are more menacing than men of another color, that color by itself can be a status symbol, that men are outrageously horny and entitled to give a woman a new name and take her body...it's just another book I wish I hadn't read.

Comment by Sandra Davies on April 24, 2012 at 2:38pm Thanks T for the explanation - sounds like at least he needs to get her to read something which will balance this Harvey bloke - people can be so susceptible to this sort of thing, especially when young ...
@Sandra ~ Yes, my son is in dating this sweet girl, is crazy about her. He was mystified by some of her behavior and was running things by me, things she'd said, asked, to get my opinion and help decode her language. He mentioned this book and it looked interesting (I'm always for learning more about men). And I did like a few things I read in the book, but they were overshadowed by what I didn't like. And this sweet girlfriend is just the type of girl to buy into what Steve wrote.
Thanks Robert and Gita. It's a sensitive topic but the aim is to make a better world. Not condone the insanity.
Comment by Robert Crisman on April 24, 2012 at 12:58pm Steve Harvey also says in his book that women must not go out with atheists because they have "no moral compass." This from a clown whose,uh, morality is predicated on women accepting, and in effect condoning the presumption that all men, himself prime among them no doubt, are horndogs and fuckrats and conscience be damned. A dick has no conscience, you see...
Women must also understand that it's an act of "loyalty" to give up their last name in marriage, that men "don't care" about the family name women were born with. That's nothing, you see, while loyalty is the alpha/omega of women's subsidiary existence.
Women belong in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant while Harvey is out on the town...
As for Gita's comment, liberal racism, as opposed to the outfront Tea Party kind, has been taken hold of by black scumbags like Harvey to denigrate a legitimate issue by using it as a way to get over on the public. Criticize Harvery and he starts screaming about "haters." This is of course quite in keeping with the American ethos, perfected so long ago by white scumbag hustlers among us.
Lastly, Harvey also says that atheists are "stupid." Well, uh, gee, I'm an atheist, and just on the face of what Harvey is barking, I'd say that my shit has more brains than he does...
Comment by Sandra Davies on April 24, 2012 at 12:56pm Have to say I find your tag more disturbing, if what I understand is the case - did son ask you about book his girlfriend had on her shelf?
Comment by Gita on April 24, 2012 at 10:37am Also, I have a problem with the double standard in comedy that allows a black comedian to say certain things, but God forbid a white comedian should say the same.
Using Harvey's example: say a black kid wanted to date a white daughter and the father and grandfather surrounded him and bullied him... Whoa! that has a whole different subtext. That's throwback racism!!
Comment by FlowerChild on April 23, 2012 at 10:27pm That pedantic tone in books makes me want to slap something upside the head, T, and I don't blame you for making your opinion known. Plus it was excellent writing. :)
