Warming up, thoughts are like a machine gun firing in Baghdad. I am about to go to war with another man to entertain thousands. The real battle is within myself. I know i am ready but my demons tell me otherwise. I have been in this dark place before. Curtains open and I escape from hell.

Cus D'Amato called it fear, there to be used, and without it the fighter is lost.

thank you everyone!  I was nervous because this was the first time I've done any kind of writing in like 10 years. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Interesting to imagine these things, and to read about them, too.

I haven't been inside a fighter's head before and you made it a most interesting place. Nice terse writing.

The tightness and precision here are admirable.  The prose matches the idea of the fighter psyching himself up for the contest.  "I have been in this dark place before."

Raging Bull. I often wondered as a child watching boxing on TV with my granfather; how can someone box for a living. Then as I got older I felt it was their relief.

There are some boxing fans here on this site.  Your sixes about the sport may be popular.  The last line of this is interesting, as if boxing is an outlet for the inner fight, which makes perfect sense, but I've never heard or read a fighter express this before.  Welcome.
